How to get your brand recommended by ChatGPT (and Gemini, Claude and Perplexity)

By Get AI Vizible · Updated

Short answer

To get ChatGPT and other AI assistants to recommend your brand, make it easy for them to be confident about you: state who you are for, what you do and what it costs in plain text on your site; get described consistently on the third-party sites they cite (reviews, directories, comparisons, forums); publish answer-first pages for the exact questions buyers ask; allow AI crawlers; and measure how often each engine names you so you can fix the questions you lose.

Step 1: Find the questions that matter

List the questions a buyer asks before choosing a product like yours. Use their words, not yours:

  • "best [category] for [audience]"
  • "[category] in [city or country]"
  • "[your brand] vs [competitor]"
  • "is [your brand] good / worth it / legit"
  • "cheapest [category] with [feature]"

Twenty to fifty questions is enough to start. Get AI Vizible can suggest questions from your site, your competitors and real Google keyword data.

Step 2: See what the engines say today

Ask each question in ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Perplexity, Grok and DeepSeek. Record:

  • whether you are named at all
  • your position in the list
  • which competitors are named instead
  • which websites are cited
  • anything wrong the engine says about you

Repeat it: answers change between runs, so treat one answer as a sample, not a verdict.

Step 3: Fix your own facts

Engines recommend brands they can describe confidently. On your site, in plain text (not images):

  • One sentence on what you are: "X is a [category] for [audience] in [market]."
  • Who it is for and not for.
  • Prices or price ranges, plans and what each includes.
  • Locations, languages and integrations.
  • A comparison page for each main competitor, fair and factual.
  • An FAQ that answers the questions from step 1.
  • Organization and Product schema that match the text.

Step 4: Get described where the engines look

Look at the domains the engines cite for your questions. Typical sources are review sites, software directories, "best of" articles, Reddit and Quora threads, YouTube, industry publications and Wikipedia-style references. Make sure you are listed and described accurately on the ones that matter in your category.

Step 5: Let AI crawlers in

Check that your robots.txt does not block GPTBot, OAI-SearchBot, ChatGPT-User, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot, Google-Extended or Applebot-Extended, and that your key pages render their text on the server. Add an llms.txt that summarises your company and links to your best pages.

Step 6: Measure, then repeat

Track the same questions every week or month. The numbers to watch:

MetricWhat it tells you
VisibilityShare of answers that name you
Average positionWhere you appear when named
Share of voiceYour mentions versus competitors'
Citation rateHow often your own domain is linked
SentimentWhether you are described positively

See AI visibility metrics explained for definitions.

What does not work

  • Stuffing pages with the brand name or keywords.
  • Publishing many thin AI-written pages that say nothing new.
  • Paying for fake reviews or mentions: engines and readers both discount them, and it can breach platform rules.

Frequently asked questions

Can I pay ChatGPT to recommend my brand?
No. There is no paid placement inside ChatGPT's organic answers. Recommendations come from what the model learned and what it retrieves, so the levers are clear facts, useful pages and credible third-party mentions.
Why does ChatGPT recommend my competitor and not me?
Usually because the competitor is described more often, more consistently or more recently on sources the model trusts, or because it has a page that answers the exact question. Compare the cited sources for that question with where you appear.
Does ChatGPT use Google results?
ChatGPT search uses its own retrieval and partners rather than Google's ranking, but pages that are well linked and easy to crawl tend to be found by every engine. Allow OAI-SearchBot in robots.txt so ChatGPT search can read your pages.
