What to do when ChatGPT or Gemini says something wrong about your brand

By Get AI Vizible · Updated

Short answer

When an AI assistant states something wrong about your brand, you cannot edit the answer directly, but you can change the sources it learns from and retrieves. Find which claim is wrong and on which engines, publish the correct fact clearly on your own site, correct it on the third-party pages the engines cite, use the engine's feedback tools, and re-check the same question over the following weeks.

1. Pin down the wrong claim

Write down the exact claim, the question that produced it, the engine and the date. Common errors:

  • an old price or a plan that no longer exists
  • a feature you do not have, or one you added recently that is missing
  • the wrong location, owner or founding date
  • confusion with a company with a similar name
  • an outdated complaint presented as current

2. Find where it comes from

Look at the citations the engine shows for that answer. If there are none, search for the claim: an old press release, directory listing, review or forum post often repeats it.

3. Publish the correct fact on your site

State it in plain text, on a page engines can crawl, close to the top: "Our Starter plan costs $99 per month and includes..." Add it to your FAQ and to schema markup where it fits. Date pages that change, such as pricing.

4. Correct it at the source

Update your listings on review sites and directories, ask publishers to update outdated articles, and answer the old forum thread with the current information.

5. Use the feedback tools

ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and Perplexity let users rate answers and send feedback. It does not change answers immediately, but it is free.

6. Re-check

Engines with live search can pick up corrections within weeks; model-memory answers may take until the next model update. Track the question regularly so you know when it is fixed.

Get AI Vizible's FactCheck compares every answer that mentions you with the brand facts you provide and flags inaccurate claims, so you see errors without reading every answer.

Frequently asked questions

Can I ask OpenAI or Google to remove a false statement?
For defamatory or harmful content, the providers have reporting forms. For ordinary factual errors, the reliable fix is correcting the sources the engines learn from and retrieve, then using in-product feedback.
